It’s currently 49° outside ( 6:00 AM ) and foggy. Today will be clear with a high of 71°. There’s a slight chance of rain overnight with a low of 54°

Rain comes in earnest on Wednesday night with an approaching cold front. Rain will last through Thanksgiving day, ending early Friday. The passing of the cold front brings temps this weekend with lows in the mid 20’s

Traffic Issues

• The drama of the under-construction roundabout at Highway 16 East and Highway 54 continues. As of yesterday, and until further notice, the intersection is now a four-way stop. In reality, it’s a traffic nightmare. If at all possible, avoid this portion of Highway 16 E if at all possible. You can find more information here.

• GDOT crews will start “ vegetation work “ today along I-85 North and Southbound between mileposts 41-57, including the shoulder lanes from mile markers 46 and 58. They will be working between 6 AM and 8 PM.

K9 Titan Laid to Rest

Hundreds of Law Enforcement Officers, their families, and members of the public came together on Friday afternoon at Unity Baptist Church to honor the life and accomplishments of K9 Titan.

Dr. Doug McCart, a senior Pastor at Unity as well as the Chaplin for the Newnan Police Department spoke about the love and family of which Titan was a part.

K-9 coordinator Sgt. Mark Storey, recounted the many accomplishments of Titan’s 5-year career while conveying the deep loss felt by not only the department but the community he served so heroically.

CCSO Warns of Possible Crypto Scam Centering Around K9 Titan

Shortly after the service, the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office shared a post to their Facebook page informing the community they’d become aware of a possible scam involving a group attempting to market a crypto “coin” that happens to share its name with the fallen K9.

It’s not known at this time if the group has attempted to solicit donations in the name of the fallen K9, but a quick look at the group’s X account shows that they are certainly attempting to align themselves in some way with his memory at the very least.

SPD, CCSO, and Other Agencies locate Vehicle, Individuals from TN BOLO

Just after 4 PM yesterday afternoon, E911 received a Be On the Look Out (BOLO) from an agency in Baldwin County, TN ( Located just south of Nashville ). The BOLO was for a particular vehicle, its driver, an adult male, as well as a juvenile. The BOLO included information that made it clear that the agency in TN believed the juvenile may be in grave danger. The information and BOLO were shared with Coweta County and Surrounding Agencies due to information that the vehicle had been seen in the area.

The vehicle was located just about 45 minutes later, unoccupied, by an SPD unit on Main St. in Senoia. Units from the CCSO, SPD, GSP, and other agencies aware of the BOLO responded to the location and began searching the area and local businesses for the individuals in the BOLO.

Shortly after the search started, contact was made with the individuals inside a local shop. Units detained the adult and secured the juvenile as they started an investigation which included speaking directly with investigators at the agency in TN that placed the BOLO.

As a result of that thorough investigation, it was determined that the juvenile was safe and both were released without any further law enforcement action.

Service for CCSO K9 Titan Today

The End of Watch memorial service for Coweta County Sheriff’s Officer K9 Titan will be held this afternoon at Unity Baptist Church on Smokey Rd. The service starts at 2 PM, and the public is welcome to attend. For those unable to attend in person, the service will be live-streamed on the Unity Baptist Church’s Facebook page and will start at 1:30 PM.

Rain and Heavy Winds Cause Spike in Falling Trees and Power Outages

Heavy winds on the heels of a cold front that brought over an inch of rain to the area have caused a spike in trees falling on roads and power lines, causing traffic disruptions and power outages in the area.

The weather station at the Newnan Coweta Airport saw a 26 MPH gust on Wednesday at 4:15 PM, the highest recorded that day, while it recorded multiple 20 MPH gusts between 1 and 2 PM on Thursday.

In total, E911 dispatched Fire units to 29 separate reports of trees and or powerlines down across the county on Wednesday and Thursday. So far this year E911 has dispatched over 850 separate reports of trees and power lines down which is down from just over 900 during the same period in 2023.

It’s currently 66° outside ( 6:27 AM ) and raining. Today is expected to be sunny, with a high of 71° and a low of 37°. Sunrise is set for 7:15 AM with sunset at 5:32 PM.

The rain should be ending over the next few hours as the cold front makes its final push through the area. In its wake will be plummeting temperatures and gusty winds.

Winds will be gusting from 15 to 30 MPH over the next several days, with lows in the lower 30’s and highs in the mid to lower 50’s.

Coweta County Schools Partner with Newnan Police Department to Conduct Safety Searches with K9

On Monday, November 18th, 2024, parents of students at Newnan Highschool and Evans Middle School were informed that the schools, in partnership with the Newnan Police Department, had conducted unannounced searches of common areas throughout the schools and had utilized both NPD SROs and K9 units.

The schools reiterated their emphasis on safety for students and staff while at school and stated that these unannounced searches would be an ongoing tool in their efforts to do that throughout the school year.

Woman Arrested for Threatening to “Blow Up” Applebee’s

Stacey Deloris Truitt, 42, of LaGrange, was arrested on Saturday, Nov 17th after employees of Applebee’s Bar and Grill in Newnan called 911 stating there was a customer that had threatened to “ Blow the place up “ during an ongoing dispute.

Officers with the Newnan Police Department arrived at the scene and located the suspect. They eventually arrested her, charging her with a felony count of Terroristic Threats and Acts as well as a count of Disorderly Conduct.

It’s currently 46° outside ( 6:31 AM ) and clear. Today is expected to be partly cloudy with a high of 73° and a low of 55°. Sunrise is set for 7:13 AM with sunset at 5:32 PM.

Showers are expected to start overnight between 2 and 5 AM and will will stay with us through early Wednesday morning. A forecast of around 2 inches of rain is possible in that period.

On the heels of the front bringing us the rain will be the coldest temps of the season thus far, with lows in the mid 30’s and high temps in the mid to upper 50’s for the rest of the week.

NCST Announces the NCST Court Reports FB Group

The NCST Court Reports group will host our ongoing coverage of court proceedings that are of local interest.

By creating a separate group, it helps offset the risk of the public losing access to the information if FB decides to do something with the page, a constant fear and threat at this point. Hopefully, it will also allow me to get some help with the coverage.

Currently, we’ve been able to provide the latest updates on the Tiffany Foster Murder, Hawk Family Murders, and the Luke Coe murder. We’ll be adding more in the coming days as well as providing more updates.

Shooting Reported in Urban Air Parking Lot

Just after 9 PM on Saturday, E911 started to receive multiple calls regarding multiple shots being fired in the parking lot in the area of Urban Air in Ashley Park.

Units arrived and spoke with several witnesses. After hours of investigating they believe that a group of individuals entered the parking lot, got out, at least one person shot off multiple rounds, and then was able to leave the area in the chaos that followed.

This is an active investigation. If anyone has any information they are asked to contact the Newnan Police Department.

Vehicle Pursuit Ends with CCSO K9 Titan killed, Deputy Injured

Just before 11 PM on Wednesday, November 13th, a deputy with the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a vehicle on North Hwy 29 near the intersection with Johnston Circle. The vehicle failed to stop and led the deputy on a pursuit that quickly passed through Palmetto at speeds in excess of 100 MPH.

As the pursuit continued north on Roosevelt Highway, passing Tatum Rd, the deputy PIT’d the suspect’s vehicle, causing it to overturn. As the deputy and his K9 partner, Titan, approached the vehicle, the suspect began firing at them with a rifle. Sadly K9 Titan was hit and killed and the deputy was injured after bullets grazed him multiple times. The deputy was treated and is expected to fully recover.

The deputy returned fire and was able to hit the suspect, killing him.

County Announces New Tornado Sires

Coweta County announced that in partnership with the City of Newnan, 7 new tornado warning sirens have been installed and join the existing 22 sirens in warning citizens caught outdoors of impending severe weather.

The newest sirens were installed at

1. Newnan High School

2. Sprayberry Rd

3. Perry St

4. McIntosh Parkway

5. Jefferson Street

6. Newnan Fire Station 2

7. Welch Elementary School

The sirens are operated by the Coweta County EMA office and are installed in areas where large numbers of people often gather outside.

Fire destroys Mobile Home in Haralason

Just before 9:30 PM last night, E911 received a call stating an empty mobile home in the BJ Mobile Home Park off Highway 85 in Haralson was on fire.

Units were quickly dispatched to the location while the caller continued to provide updates to dispatch. Eventually, the caller relayed to the call taker that the fire was threatening the woodline and that the walls had collapsed.

Fire units arrived on the scene and found a mobile home completely engulfed in fire. They quickly worked to attack the fire and were able to get it under control before it spread to anything nearby.

Fire units did request the fire marshal respond as there seemed to be some aspects that led them to believe it may have been the result of arson.

Coweta County Coroner’s Office is asking the public for help locating next of kin.

The Coweta County Coroner’s Office is asking for help locating relatives of Stanley Dean Arnold, 65, who was found deceased outside of his home at 248 Greenville St on October 12th. Authorities believe he died of natural causes.

They are asking that any relatives of Mr. Arnold come forward and that anyone with information regarding possible relatives contact their office at 770-683-0444 or 678-877-2678.

Serious Accident on Newnan Crossing Bypass leads to Life Flight response.

Just before 11 AM E911 started receiving calls regarding an accident on Newnan Crossing Bypass just south of Bullsboro Dr / Highway 34 East. Callers reported that a black car had struck a grey SUV and that the SUV was now on its side.

Units with the Newnan Police Department and Newnan Fire Department arrived on the scene and began extracting the driver, an elderly woman, from the vehicle. EMS requested that Life Flight respond with a landing zone of the bypass. NPD shut the bypass down and Air Evac Lifeteam 153 based in Fayette Co responded to the scene. The patient was transported to an Atlanta hospital. No update is known on their current condition. The driver of the black vehicle was treated on the scene for minor injuries.

Yesterday’s Summary and Updates

The following incidents were covered on the NCST News Network FB Page over the last three days.

Identity of Pedestrian killed on Bullsboro Dr released

Authorities have identified the victim of last Wednesday’s incident at 62-year-old Homer Lee Johnson, who was reportedly homeless. They are also asking any next of kin in the area to contact the Coweta County Coroner’s Office.

Multiple Vehicle Fires Impact the Area, Closing the Interstate

The first, on Friday morning, occurred near the intersection of the Newnan Bypass and Welcome Rd when a large truck had its tires start on fire after its brakes overheated. Units from the Coweta County Fire Department responded and were able to quickly put the fire out.

The next fire occurred Friday evening around 6 PM at the intersection of the Newnan Bypass and Turkey Creek Rd. The vehicle, a midsize SUV, was a complete loss however there were no reported injuries thankfully. No word on how the vehicle fire started. Click here to view a community-submitted video.

On Saturday, Oct 19th, an accident with injuries occurred at the 31-mile marker of I-85 South, just inside Meriwether County. The accident appears to have resulted in one of the vehicles starting on fire. Just before 5 PM, Meriwether County Fire requested mutual aid from Coweta County to help respond to the accident, which resulted in Coweta County Fire Rescue sending multiple units.

The accident and resulting fire caused all southbound lanes of I-85 to be closed for nearly 3 hours, leading to a massive backup that nearly reached Exit 47 ( Newnan ) at times.

Missing Teenager Located Safely

Early Friday morning, the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office released a Be On the Look Out ( BOLO ) for 13-year-old Isabella Isherwood who had last been seen leaving her residence on Strong Rd around 8 AM that morning. Initially, a large search of the area surrounding the residence was launched by units from the CCSO and Coweta County Fire Rescue, however after hours of searching without locating her, they called it off assuming she’d more than likely been picked up by a third party and was no longer in the area.

While details were not provided, the CCSO updated the BOLO on their Facebook page around 6 AM on Saturday morning stating that she’d been found safe.

Head-on Collision on East Highway 16 Results in Life Flight Response

A head-on collision occurred Sunday morning just before 1:30 AM just east of Elder’s Mill Rd on Easy Highway 16. The collision resulted in very heavy damage to one vehicle, causing the driver to be trapped by the dash folding in and over them. It took some time for units with Coweta County Fire Rescue to cut the driver free, the 34-year-old male was then transported to an awaiting Life Flight helicopter for transport to Grady in Atlanta.

The other driver was taken by ambulance to Piedmont Newnan Hospital for minor injuries.

No updates have been made available regarding their condition.

The accident is being investigated by the Georgia State Patrol as a possible DUI.

The following incidents were covered on the NCST News Network FB Page yesterday, Wednesday, October 16th, 2024.

Plane Crashes off East Highway 16

Just after 11 AM, a Piper Cherokee PA-28 single-engine aircraft departed the Newnan Coweta Airport. The aircraft, with a pilot and single passenger, would make it less than a mile from the end of the runway before making an emergency landing at the intersection of the Newnan Bypass and East Highway 16, across from the Harley Davidson dealership. Both the pilot and passenger were able to exit the aircraft and sustained only minor injuries. The plane, seen in the pictures below, lost a wing in the landing but thankfully otherwise held together and remained upright. The aircraft was taken back to the Newnan Coweta Airport on the back of multiple roll-back wreckers where an investigation will be conducted into the cause by the FAA and National Transportation Safety Board. The plane shows as being registered to a local resident.

Serious Accident Ends with Vehicle Underwater in Senoia

Just after Noon, E911 started receiving calls stating that a vehicle had jumped the curb off Pylant St in Senoia, near the entrance to the Senoia Branch Library, and come to a rest, upside down, in Marimac Lake.

Officers with the Senoia Police Department were dispatched as well as Coweta County Fire Rescue units, including specialized marine rescue units. SPD officers arrived shortly after being dispatched and found the vehicle overturned and completely below the water. After they arrived, they joined multiple citizens who had already jumped into the cold water in an attempt to rescue the occupants.

The first CCFR unit on the scene was a member of the command staff in a large 4x4 truck. Thinking quickly he passed a firehose to the individuals in the water and had them secure the firehose to the vehicle. He then secured the other side to his truck and began pulling the vehicle from the water.

They were able to pull the vehicle out of the water and extricate the 34 year old male driver. He was quickly transported from the scene to Piedmont Newnan Hospital.

While no official cause for the incident has been released, a statement by the Senoia Police Department mentions the possibility of a mechanical failure with the vehicle, or a medical event with the driver as possible causes.

Pedestrian Struck and Killed off Bullsboro Dr.

Just before 11 PM last night E911 received a call from a driver who stated that he had “ hit a homeless man “ on Bullsboro Dr. Units with both the CCSO and NPD were dispatched to the area of Amlajack Blvd and Bullsboro Dr. Fire and EMS units were also dispatched. LEO units were the first on the scene and located a male victim in the grass between Herring Rd and IHOP. The victim had sustained very serious injuries and units began CPR. EMS arrived shortly after and despite everyone’s best efforts, the victim, a 72-year-old male, passed away at the scene. The driver was the 911 caller and stayed on the scene. Due to the fatality, the investigation is being done by the Georgia State Patrol.

The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
